Hi guys,

My name is Cindy, little Belgian who decided to live permanently in the US. (I moved about 4 years ago.)
I'm pretty lucky since I live in the beautiful state of California. Smile
I got married in September to a wonderful American and got a green card. Now working on the citizenship!!
Other than that, I love to read in English and French!! I watch little tv but when I do it's always in English.
I thought it would be a great idea to join this forum to stay in touch with what's going on in Belgium and meet more people.
Well that's it for now..
Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions Smile

Hi Cindy,

Welcome in this new non-native English speakers community Smile
As we're all non-native speakers, most of what you are going to read on this forum could come up with little (or big) mistakes.
Be kind with us, we're here to improve Smile

Maybe I could provide some English lessons when I get a bit further with my studies and if many members are interested in it.
We'll see about that.

I'm very glad to have one of my childhood's friend registered on my first forum Smile
Such a honour it is! Very Happy

Don't worry about it! I do NOT pretend to be perfect in English anyway! I think you can always improve yourself.
And I might have a slightly different English because I use the American one.

It's an honor to me Wink

Hey,

So, what decided you to move abroad? And how was it?
My brother is leaving soon for the US because is GF is American, so he's a bit stressed about this big step. He found a job in Hackensack, just next to New York City.

Well first I just left as an Au pair. It was suppose to be only for a year!!
Then I decided to change my visa to a student visa after a year and to go back to school! (Don't worry mom I'm coming back in just 3 little years!!)
I didn't plan on meeting that wonderful guy who would become my husband last September.. Bye bye all plans to go back in Belgium.. (Sorry mom!)

Anyway, I'm totally in love with California and wouldn't move back to Belgium even if my husband was ok with it!

I totally understand your brother. It can be a little nerve racking especially at the beginning. New place, new people, new language, new culture!
I had a little of a hard with the language to begin with but you get over it. I guess it depends how is English is to begin with. It might seem weird but even though American culture is very similar to ours, it's still different. Especially when you live there!! Some people adapt easier than others.
If I had only one advice, it would be to try to make friends asap. It's easier when you don't isolate yourself!

Good luck to him!! Smile

I think he's planning to join clubs. And he'll have collegues to help him immerse. Plus he already know people because he did a road trip with his girlfriend last summer and met a lot of her friends. So I guess he'll find some people to hang out with. And he'll have her on weekend.

Thanks ^^
